This Privacy Policy describes how Poodle Genetics Lab (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you visit https://poodlegenetics.com. We are committed to protecting your privacy and complying with applicable data protection laws, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide directly:

  • Newsletter subscriptions: First name and email address when you subscribe to our newsletter.
  • Contact form submissions: Name, email address, subject category, and message content when you contact us.
  • Account registration: Email address, display name, and password (hashed) when you create an account to save calculator sessions.
  • Calculator sessions: Genotype inputs and calculated results when you save sessions (requires account).
  • Purchase information: Name and email address for digital book purchases. Payment processing is handled by third-party processors; we do not store payment card data.

Information collected automatically:

  • Google Analytics 4: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our site. GA4 collects anonymized usage data including pages visited, time on site, referral sources, and approximate geographic location (country/region level). IP addresses are anonymized.
  • Cookies: We use cookies for session management, analytics, and (if you consent) personalization. See our Cookie Policy for details.
  • Log data: Our servers automatically record IP addresses, browser type, referring URLs, and request timestamps for security and debugging purposes.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To send our newsletter (Genetics Lab Dispatch) via Resend email service, only to subscribers who have explicitly opted in.
  • To respond to contact form submissions.
  • To maintain your account and save your calculator sessions in Supabase.
  • To fulfill book orders and deliver digital downloads.
  • To analyze site usage through Google Analytics 4 to improve our content and tools.
  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues and security threats.
  • To comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes. We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling in ways that significantly affect you.

4. Third-Party Services

We share data with the following service providers as necessary to operate our site:

  • Supabase: Database and authentication provider. Stores user accounts, saved calculator sessions, newsletter subscribers, and contact form submissions. Data is stored in the United States. See Supabase Privacy Policy.
  • Resend: Email delivery service used for newsletters and contact form notifications. See Resend Privacy Policy.
  • Google Analytics 4: Web analytics. We have enabled IP anonymization. See Google Privacy Policy.
  • Amazon Associates: We participate in the Amazon Associates affiliate program. Clicking Amazon links may set cookies on your device. See Amazon Privacy Policy.
  • Vercel: Hosting and infrastructure provider. See Vercel Privacy Policy.

5. Data Retention

  • Newsletter data: Retained until you unsubscribe. Unsubscribing removes you from future sends; we retain suppression records to honor your opt-out permanently.
  • Contact form submissions: Retained for 24 months for follow-up and record-keeping, then deleted.
  • User accounts: Retained while your account is active. You may delete your account at any time.
  • Analytics data: Google Analytics data retention is set to 14 months.
  • Server logs: Retained for 90 days for security purposes.

6. Your Rights

Under GDPR (EU/EEA residents), you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of your personal data.
  • Rectification: Correct inaccurate personal data.
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”).
  • Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Restriction: Request that we restrict processing of your data.
  • Objection: Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent: At any time, for consent-based processing.

Under CCPA (California residents), you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information is collected and how it is used.
  • Request deletion of your personal information.
  • Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information).
  • Non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

7. Cookies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies. Essential cookies (session management, security) are always active. Analytics and preference cookies require your consent and can be managed through the cookie consent banner that appears on your first visit, or at any time via our Cookie Settings (linked in the footer).

8. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures including HTTPS encryption, database row-level security via Supabase, bcrypt password hashing, and access controls limiting data access to authorized personnel only. However, no internet transmission or storage system is 100% secure.

9. Children's Privacy

Our site is not directed to children under 13 (or 16 in the EU/EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. When we do, we'll update the “last updated” date at the top. For material changes, we will notify newsletter subscribers by email. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
