Why this dog is worth study
Cruella tested at UC Davis VGL twice, in two different notation systems, and the two results look like they disagree -- they do, in a way worth flagging.
Legacy A-locus notation called her awat: "aw" (agouti) over "at" (phantom). By eye, Cruella looks phantom. But modern haplotype testing on the same dog reads BB1/BB3, and the legacy call was agouti (aw), not phantom -- so her phenotype and one of her two genotype results don't quite line up.
The takeaway: when a breeding dog's phenotype doesn't quite match its genotype -- here, a poodle that looks phantom but tested agouti (aw) under the legacy system -- that's not something to wave away. It's a signal there may be something worth investigating further: re-run the modern panel, compare both results side by side, and look closer before counting on either one for a breeding decision.
